Corneal Crosslinking (CXL) has been used in Europe and other countries for several years and is currently undergoing FDA clinical trials in the United States.

While data from these initial clinical trials is being collected for review by the FDA, a number of sites in the United States are offering corneal crosslinking under investigator sponsored clinical studies. These sites are using protocols approved by various Institutional Review Boards.

All the following studies are listed on the National Institute for Health (NIH) website: ClinicalTrials.gov or have IRB approval.

(An Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a committee formally designated to approve, monitor and review research involving human subjects to protect the rights and welfare of the research subjects. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Office of Protection from Research Risks (part of the National Institutes of Health) set the guidelines and regulations governing human subjects research and IRBs.)
